What Piko is
Piko is a subscription streaming service for children aged 4-11. We curate videos from YouTube, filtering out content that isn't suitable for kids. Think of us as a safe window into the best of YouTube — without the algorithm, ads, or rabbit holes.
By using Piko, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
How we handle your data is explained in our Privacy Policy. By using Piko, you also agree to our Privacy Policy.
Who can use Piko
- Account holders must be 18 or older — only parents or legal guardians can create accounts
- Children use Piko under parental supervision — you're responsible for how your children use the service
- One family per account — don't share your login with other households
- UK residents — Piko is currently available in the United Kingdom only
Subscription & billing
Free trial
New subscribers get a 14-day free trial. You won't be charged during this period. If you cancel before the trial ends, you won't pay anything. After the trial, your subscription automatically continues at £3.99/month unless you cancel.
By starting your free trial, you agree that we can begin providing the service immediately. You acknowledge that you'll lose your 14-day right to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 once you start watching content, because digital content delivery will have begun.
Monthly subscription
- Piko costs £3.99 per month
- £1 of your subscription goes to your chosen school's PTA
- Billing is monthly, on the same date you subscribed
- Your subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel
- We'll charge your payment method on file on your billing date
- Prices may change — we'll give you 30 days' notice before any increase
How to cancel
You can cancel your subscription at any time. No phone calls, no retention teams, no hoops.
To cancel:
- Open Piko Parent
- Go to Settings → Subscription
- Tap "Cancel subscription"
Or email us at hello@heypiko.co.uk and we'll cancel for you within 24 hours.
When you cancel, you'll keep access until the end of your current billing period. We don't offer refunds for partial months, but you won't be charged again.
School donations
£1 from each monthly subscription goes to the school you select. You can change your chosen school anytime in Piko Parent. Donations are made quarterly to registered school PTAs.
If your school isn't registered: We'll hold your donations for up to 12 months. If they don't register in that time, we'll ask you to select a different school.
If your school closes or deregisters: We'll notify you and ask you to select a new school. Any held donations will transfer to your new selection.
School donations are a gift — they're not refundable and don't affect your subscription price.
Content & curation
We curate videos from YouTube and other sources. While we work hard to ensure all content is age-appropriate, we can't guarantee perfection. If you find something concerning, please report it immediately and we'll review it.
Content availability may change. Videos may be removed from Piko if they're removed from the source platform or if we decide they no longer meet our standards.
YouTube delivery
Videos in Piko are delivered via YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed mode (youtube-nocookie.com). This means we don't host the videos ourselves — YouTube does. When your child watches a video, YouTube may collect limited technical data (such as device type and video playback information) to deliver the content. We've chosen this mode specifically because it reduces tracking compared to standard YouTube embeds.
By using Piko, you agree to YouTube's Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy for video playback.
Your responsibilities
- Keep your account secure — don't share your password
- Supervise your children — Piko is a tool to help, not a replacement for parental oversight
- Use the service lawfully — don't attempt to circumvent our systems or access content you haven't paid for
- Respect the content — don't download, copy, or redistribute videos from Piko
Our responsibilities to you
We'll do our best to provide a reliable, safe service. Under UK consumer law, you have statutory rights regarding digital content that we cannot exclude:
- Digital content must be of satisfactory quality
- Digital content must be fit for a particular purpose
- Digital content must match its description
If our service doesn't meet these standards, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund. For more information about your consumer rights, visit citizensadvice.org.uk.
Service availability
We aim for Piko to be available 99.9% of the time. If we experience a major outage lasting more than 24 consecutive hours, we'll automatically extend your subscription by the same number of days at no extra charge.
Limitations (where permitted by law)
To the extent permitted by law, we're not liable for:
- Temporary service interruptions due to maintenance (we'll give notice where possible)
- Outages caused by events outside our reasonable control
- Content that slips through our curation process (report it and we'll remove it promptly)
- Changes to YouTube or other platforms that affect content availability
- Indirect losses (such as lost profits or lost data)
Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the last 12 months, or £50, whichever is greater.
Things we never limit
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any liability that cannot be excluded under UK law
- Breach of your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015
Intellectual property
Piko, our logo, and our original content belong to us. The videos we curate belong to their original creators. Your subscription gives you the right to stream content through Piko — not to own, download, or redistribute it.
Account termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, use the service fraudulently, or behave in a way that could harm Piko or other users. If we terminate your account for cause, you won't be entitled to a refund.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of Piko after changes means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales. This doesn't affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
Disputes
If you have a complaint about Piko, please contact us first at hello@heypiko.co.uk. We'll try to resolve it within 14 days.
If we can't resolve your complaint, you may be able to use an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service. We're happy to consider any reasonable method of resolving disputes outside of court.
This doesn't affect your right to take legal action if needed.
Events outside our control
We're not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including:
- Natural disasters or severe weather
- Pandemics or public health emergencies
- Internet or infrastructure outages
- YouTube or third-party platform disruptions
- Government actions or legal requirements
In these situations, we'll do our best to resume normal service as quickly as possible and keep you informed.
General terms
Entire agreement
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, make up the entire agreement between you and Piko. They replace any previous agreements or understandings.
Severability
If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court, that part will be removed and the remaining terms will continue to apply.
Waiver
If we don't immediately enforce any of these terms, that doesn't mean we've waived our right to enforce them later.
Assignment
You cannot transfer your Piko account or these terms to someone else. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation (for example, if Piko is acquired), but this won't affect your rights or our obligations under these terms.
How we contact you
We'll send important notices to the email address on your account. This includes billing confirmations, service announcements, and changes to these terms. It's your responsibility to keep your email address up to date.
Notices are considered delivered when we send the email. If an email bounces, we may try to contact you through the app.
