Numberblocks makes counting a long-form adventure
Forty-five calm minutes of early maths, best used as a library of sections rather than one enormous lesson.

Numberblocks offers forty-five minutes of counting and simple maths for four- to seven-year-olds, combining excellent educational value with familiar character play. The programme is calming and moderately sensory, suitable for seekers and avoiders, and has no fear concern. Ten- and eleven-year-olds should avoid it because the material is too young. App promotion is subtle with low pester pressure. The duration needs adult judgement: early maths benefits from pauses, objects and conversation more than from reaching the end of a compilation.

Will it actually calm them down?
Scores measure how reliably this video moves a child toward a settled, regulated state. In the Piko app, kids tell us their weather and we do the matching automatically.
Which kids will love it?
Why it works
Number characters make quantity visible, so children can watch groups combine, separate and change instead of handling numerals as empty marks. Explorers follow patterns, companions learn with familiar figures and dreamers gain a story world around counting. The long collection can reinforce concepts, but repetition is most useful when a child is still engaged. A handful of counters on the table may do more after one section than another twenty minutes on autoplay, which is a pleasingly low-tech conclusion.
When to reach for it
- For targeted counting practice Select the section matching the child’s current learning.
- Before hands-on maths Continue with blocks, buttons or safe household objects.
- As a split collection Use episode boundaries rather than watching all 45 minutes.
